ADDICTIONS, Greenside


Since Tim Allcock sold the famous Café Flo in Greenside at the end of 2006 there have been very few places to go in this trendy suburb of Johannesburg at night - or, for that matter, during the day!

When Café Flo and OveFlo finally closed doors this year (I was most surprised that it took so long before the restaurant finally reached the bottom!), ADDICTIONS situated across the road soon became the in-place for the royals and aristocracy of the Golden City's forested suburbs.

ADDICTIONS had run down over the years but, under the new ownership of brother-and-sister-team, Tony and Maria Foundanellas, this simply decorated restaurant now is well on the road to becoming one of the very best places to eat in South Africa.

The food is absolutely original: Fusion infused with the love that comes with years of experimentation. Unexpected taste combinations but always subtle and beautifully presented. No forests of garnish - just simple yet effective lay-outs of very edible food on the plate. Yes, you can clear – and, if you wish, - even lick your plate at this establishment!

And, what is more, the waiters know not to clear plates away until everyone has eaten.

At ADDICTIONS there is food for every taste. Vegans and Vegetarians are treated with enormous respect in eth menu planning and, whether you feel like a salad or a delicately grilled rack of lamb, you will not be disappointed. Maria also developed a delightful lighter menu for lunch. Try the spectacular hamburger!

In the evenings you cannot start your meal without tasting the delicious selection of spring rolls -delicate fillings with thin crispy crusts. What a delight!

This restaurant serves you 340ml cans when you order a cool drink - not the fraudulent 200ml mixer sizes as so many dishonest institutions do.
